Okudo double sided tomae #1138
This unique stone has been lapped front and back, both sides are grit rich but have
different clay components. The asagi light green side has a layer which is about 2mm
thick and after that the stone will be all the same blue/gray as the reverse side. The
hardness or the grit content will not change, just the color. The deposit of clays that
make up these stones was wind dispersed and the winds did evidently shift during the
process of birth bringing in different color clay.
Also there are some issues with the lamination of the gray side of the stone, and you
can see this in the center of that side. It looks like a scuff but it is actually a spot where
the grain looks to have been agitated in that area so the typical perfectly even
horizontal sandwiching of has a bias or tilted grain which can cause flacking. As the
stone wears it is hard to tell what this spot will develop into, larger or smaller.
A hard stone it makes a super final finishing stone for razors. I will accept a return of this
stone with no questions asked.
The stone (toishi) has been lapped perfectly flat and the corners and edges beveled
unless otherwise noted. All of my stones come with a tested and appropriately sized
tomonaguara slurry stone, and a money back guarantee minus the return shipping.
