#1165 unknown mine iromono
From the Air Raid Shelter I am not exactly which mine this stone came
from but from the fineness and cutting speed suggest that it is
from one of the honyama mines in and around the town of Takao
on the outskirts of Kyoto. From the back and the front you can see
a very fine pattern of tiny red circles. I do not know what mineral these
circles are made of and it is hard to tell if they enhance the cutting
action one way or another, but they are unique.
It is a fast cutting stone that will self slurry and with just clear water
and with just a little slurry from a diamond plate or a tomonagura the
stones cutting actions are greatly advanced. Although thin it is
wider and there are thousands of razor sessions in this stone waiting
to be used. I tested this stone with a Henckels Friodur and found it
to be very compatible with modern steels.
Super smooth, the sides and ends are hand sawn, the back is
flattened with a scraper tool called in Japan a sen.
The stone (toishi) has been lapped flat and the
corners and edges beveled unless otherwise noted. All of my
stones come with a tested and appropriately sized tomonaguara
slurry stone, and a money back guarantee minus the return shipping.K
