NAKAYAMA SUITA #116
A very hard shiro or white suita stone from the deepest strata of the mine complex. This
stone can be used with just clear water if you are a skilled sharpener. With the addition of
a slurry made with a nagura this stone immediately becomes a faster cutter and much
easier to use. The color is a pale white with a blush of pink and it is just full of renge.
When the stone is wet it assumes a more colorful appearance with deep yellows coming
to the fore.
. There is a lot going on in the surface of this stone, long running solid inclusion typical of
Nakayama suita, concentrated silica pockets or super cutting grit, flecks of renge in red
and darker umber. The classic Nakayama cloud pattern can also be seen.
