This massive pure chunk of Okudo gray & hard asagi is a charmer.
Totally fine and smooth, with a slurry it kicks up a storm and cuts any steel
without a whimper, with clear water or a light slurry the stone feels like
finely etched glass and will leave a blade bright and scratch free when used
under clear running water. This is exactly what a high class asagi stone
will look and feel like.
So thick at 47mm, the miner could have chosen to rip it down and make
two stones out of one, but obviously he did not have the heart to. The
kawa skin on the back is rich and graphic, few stones come to us like
this. It will sit flat on a bench or can be mounted in a holder.
