Nakayama tomae #608
Because of the variegated coloration of this stone from green to gray I hesitate to call it an
asagi, so tomae will do. There are two main kinds for stones in the mines of Kyoto,
tomae and suita, all stones are of these basic layers and asagi is just one particular
brand of tomae. This tomae has an asagi element to the top but judging from the sides
this layer is shallow and the stone will prove to be mostly gray with a blue cast.
A very fine and fast stone I have honed up a razor using TheAxMethod with little effort and
the shave is super smooth and close. The grit consistency is not affected by the
coloration in any way, these are mostly colors of the clay binders. I know that the owner
will agree. The back has a beautiful classic Nakayama kawa skin with tones of burnt
umbers, umber and raw sienna along with the rich blacks that sparkle in the light in large
The toishi has been lapped perfectly flat, the sides dressed and the corners and edges
beveled unless otherwise noted. All of my stones come with a money back guarantee
minus the shipping.
