Unknown mine asagi kamisori toishi #137
Although I do not know which mine this is from I can tell from the cutting action and grit
quality that it is a Yamashiro area stone from the Umegahata valley. It is ultra fine, fairly
hard in the 4+ range and fast cutting. This is the only stone I have had that contained this
combed sand pattern.
In the video below you will see how I was able to take a dulled freshly set razor to shave
ready in just a few minuted. After the video I did shave with the razor and came away with
a perfectly smooth and close shave with no irritation of any kind.
The toishi has been lapped perfectly flat and the edges beveled.
This stone came along with a collection that I bought from a fellow who spent years
assembling and identifying Japanese tennen toishi and specifically kamisori toishi.
