Ozaki Suita #481
This hard gray suita tennen toishi has areas of renge and black renge along with some
bands of kan. It is a very fast cutting stone as you can see in the video, and it will hone up
a kanna or nomi blade with very little effort to razor sharp. I do most of my sharpening with
a slurry but with some skill this stone can be used with just clear water. At this size the
stone will sit easily in most stone holders but it is flat enough to sit on a table.
The Ozaki mine along with most of the other famous Kyoto mines was closed up for
good in the 1920s or before. This is old stock that was collected from a carpentry shop.
The toishi has been lapped perfectly flat, the sides dressed and the corners and edges
beveled. The original stamps read before I lapped them off, Ohira Mountain, Miners
