A rare deep hued Narutaki in reds, purples, yellows, greens, blues. This is a super fine stone that will hone up
a razor in short time using TheAxMethod as seen in this video below. Some say that only the hardest of stones
are good for razors, I have never been a firm believer in that. Instead I feel that the grit particle is what dictates a
razor hone and that it is the skill of the user that brings out the best of the stone.
Iro tomae of this type are not deep strata stone, they are often from the Aka-pin strata, and these colors are
made up of minerals that have migrated into the mines upper layers as waterborne agents. Narutaki and
Nakayama have both produced these cherished vivid colored stone. I have shaved off of this stone and it was
an excellent shave, very close and one of the most comfortable shaves I have had.
This stone can be hand held like I used it or will sit flat on a table. A tested and matched tomonagura will be
included with this stone. Every side and edge has been lapped on this stone, so both the front and the back
can be used as equals for honing.
All of my stones come fully lapped with beveled edges unless otherwise noted.
This stone and the other kamisori toishi on my site are from a world class private collection of over 400 pieces
assembled in Japan over the past years in the area around Toyama by a collector of shaving implements. I
was lucky enough to purchase total collection over the last 2 years. Many of the hones were actually used by
barbers, some dating to the 1920s or earlier, while others were simply prepared by the miners as razor hones
as evidenced by the size and fine quality of the stones grit composition.
