A Nakayama shiro suita with momoji, renge & nashiji. This nice thick piece of Nakayama shiro sutia is full of
renge which just bleeds out the sides with color. An enhanced cutting stone it is also fairly hard and fine and is
suitable for razor honing. The graphic kawa skin on the back is a perfect example of Nakayama kawa. I would
suggest that this stone be sealed on the sides and back, and I would be willing to do this with true urushi upon
request. The stone fits fairly flat on a table or could be used as a hand held hone.
This stone and the other kamisori toishi on my site are from a world class private collection of over 400 pieces
assembled in Japan over the past years in the area around Toyama by a collector of shaving implements. I
was lucky enough to purchase total collection over the last 2 years. Many of the hones were actually used by
barbers, some dating to the 1920s or earlier, while others were simply prepared by the miners as razor hones
as evidenced by the size and fine quality of the stones grit composition.
