|SPECIMEN NAKAYAMA KAMISORI TOISHI #8
VINTAGE NAKAYAMA KAMISORI TOISHI. This stone was most likely mined and
slabbed up in the 1920s or 1930s judging from the low speed circular saw kerf
marks left on the sides.
It is from one of the many tomae strata and is in the 4+ category of hardness
making it an easy stone to use and in the 4+ range for fineness providing a edge
giving a close and comfortable shave. Loaded and concentrated with grit it is a
fast cutter and very fine and is an excellent razor hone. This stone and all others I
sell come fully lapped with beveled edges unless otherwise noted.
Very pure in overall composition with a yellow/green hue indicative of fast cutting
stones, these iro, or color tennen toishi are a joy to use and this one has a buttery
feeling under the blade. The bright colored skin on the back reminds me of
Shinden, but I am positive it came from Nakayama.
